With a Timely account, you can not only change the language of your public calendar, but also change the default translation of specific words on the Public View of your own event calendar. You can do that directly from your Timely dashboard without any coding required. In this post you will learn how to add custom translations to your calendar.
Before adding a custom translations to your public calendar, you need to download the calendar language file.
First, login into your Timely account, and go to Settings in the main left menu. Then click on the Calendar language drop-down menu in the right column.
Open the Custom translations settings, and click the Add language on the drop-down menu.
Select one of several already added languages. Under Actions, three icons will appear: (1) white download icon; (2) green upload icon; and (3) red delete icon.
After that, click the white icon to download the language file in CSV format. You can open the file with Notepad++ or a similar tool. You can also use Excel to open the file. Keep in mind that Excel sometimes change the format when saving, making it impossible to upload the file.
When you open the language file, you will see a list with all the words available in your public calendar. Search the word you want to customize the translation. When you find it, you will see that there are two words in quotes.
Then, add your custom translation as a third word after the two existing ones. The third custom translated word must also be in quotes. See the example in the image below:
Repeat the same procedure for all the words you want to customize the translation. Next, save the file.
After saving your changes, upload the new language file to your calendar using the green icon. A small green check icon next to the language title will indicate if you have imported the file correctly.
To see the changes on your calendar, don't forget to set the default language in the settings.
Important: If you were previously using Relabeling, and want to use custom translations instead, please delete all labels to avoid overlapping.
In addition to downloading and uploading custom translations, you can also delete custom translations files from your Timely dashboard. You may want to delete a custom translation in case it is no longer updated or was uploaded by mistake, for example.
To delete a custom translation, just click on the red action button next to the language. The file will be deleted immediately.

With Timely event software, you can easily accept payments online by connecting your account to your favorite payment gateway. This feature is very useful if you want to sell event tickets from your own events calendar, or event ads through an integrated event submission form. Keep reading to learn how to add a payment gateway to your Timely account and create an additional stream of revenue for your event business.
A payment gateway is a technology service provided by an e-commerce application, and used by merchants to accept credit or debit card purchases from customers. Payment gateways act as in-between facilitators for secure payments. They encrypt and transmit payment details from the point of entry to payment processors, as well as communicate the approval or decline the charge back to the merchant or customer.
Most payment gateways accept both online and offline transactions, and work across all sales channels and devices. Some of them support multi-currency payments so you can securely accept payments from global customers. These service providers are essential to help online businesses grow while receiving secure electronic payments for goods and services sold.
At Timely, we know how important it is to feel comfortable with your payment gateway provider. That’s why we don’t require our clients to use a specific gateway with their accounts. On the contrary, we encourage them to explore and use the one that best suits their needs. Depending on the payment gateway you choose, you may have different benefits. Thus, we recommend doing your own research before choosing a payment gateway for your event business.
Currently, we have native integrations with PayPal, Stripe and Square. However, if you use a different payment gateway we may be able to accommodate your needs by customizing a solution for you. Just contact us. We will be happy to help you.
IMPORTANT: Please note that every payment gateway will require different information from you while opening your account. Generally, they will also ask you to confirm personal information in order to activate your account. Only after activating your account, you will be able to receive online payments.
PayPal is one of the largest payment networks in the world. That means they can offer extra benefits linked with their brand, like flexible shopping, no account number needed to make payments, and rewards. You can find more details about those services on their website.
You can create a PayPal account by clicking here. First, you will need to choose between a personal or business accounts. Then, you just need to follow the steps on the screen to create and activate your account.
Unlike PayPal, Stripe is aimed at business accounts only. No matter if you’re a solo entrepreneur, a small business or a famous brand, they have different tools to assist you. From invoices to card issuing and business operations. You can see all the benefits on their website.
To create an account, you just need to register with Stripe and fill in the information requested.
Square is also perfect for entrepreneurs and business owners. You can even register your staff and control payrolls using their system, managing all your business data from one place. Access their website to know all their products in detail.
To create an account with Square, go to their sign up page and fill in the information requested.
IMPORTANT: No matter the payment gateway you choose, they will all ask you to confirm your account. It’s important to remember that you can’t receive online payments until your account is confirmed. Check the confirmation method on your preferred gateway and follow the instructions to start receiving payments.
After creating and activating an account with your preferred payment gateway, you will need to register the payments receivable account on your Timely dashboard. Just follow the steps bellow:
When selling event tickets with Timely event ticketing platform, or event ads through Timely integrated event submission form, the system will recognize the connected payment gateway account as your default billing account.
Thus, whenever you sell an event ticket or an event ad from your Timely event calendar, you will receive payments on that payment gateway account. This means that no additional set up is required from your end.
Depending on your plan with Timely, you might be able to have multiple billing accounts. This feature can give you more flexibility when choosing the payment gateway account to receive online payments for specific events.
In this case, you will need to select the applicable billing account when creating your event tickets. Simply follow the steps below:
IMPORTANT: Regardless of how many billing accounts you have connected with your Timely account, you can only add one billing account per event.

With a Timely account, you have the flexibility to display your online calendar and events in any time zone. You can set up a default timezone for your calendar and apply it to all events. Alternatively, you can choose a different time zone for each event. In addition, you can choose to load your calendar and events for the local time of your website visitors. In this post, you’ll learn all the steps to set up multiple time zones for your calendars and events.
If you are an event professional, you might need to consider the events' timezone when coordinating events, meetings and videoconferences. This is true not only for virtual events, but also in-person events. In many instances, choosing the best timezone to host your events is crucial for the event to be successful.
In some large countries, there are many different time zones within the country's territory. For example, in the US there are 9 different timezones: Atlantic, Eastern, Central, Mountain, Pacific, Alaskan, Hawaii-Aleutian, Samoa and Chamorro standard times. This can make people confused when they want to attend an event in a different city or state.
By informing the specific timezone the event is happening, or by loading the event listing for the local time of your website visitors, you can help potential attendees get prepared for your event in advance.
Follow the steps below to set up the default time zone for your events calendar:
Important: Changing the calendar timezone setting will affect all new events that you create, but not the existing ones. For those, you will need to manually change the event timezone, as explained below.
If you want your events to appear with a different reference zone than the default one, you will have to do that manually for each event. And you do that while creating or editing the event on Timely dashboard. Just got to the Timezone setting and select your preferred one.
There are two ways to display events on your audience's local time. You can allow them to select the time zone they will see your public events calendar. Also, you can automatically load the whole calendar for the local time of your website visitors.
Find these two features under Settings < General < Date & Time < Time. If you want your audience to select the time zone for them to see your calendar, check the "Show timezone button in toolbar" option. If you want the calendar to automatically display events in the visitor's local time, check the "Load for local timezone" option.
After saving all your time settings, go to your public calendar to check the time information your audience can see.
If you have selected to show the timezone button in the toolbar, when clicking this button you will see a dropdown menu with both the default and the local time zones. You can then select your preferred one.
If you have checked the "Include timezone" option in the settings, you will also be able to see in which reference zone the event is happening.

Timely's event platform can be used on any public or private website or mobile application. By default, when you publish events using our software, they become available online to everyone. However, if you want to limit who sees your events and calendar, you can easily hide them from the public or search engines. In this article you will learn all the options available to make your events and calendar private.
Excluding your calendar from search engine indexing will prevent the calendar and events from showing in search results. This way, only visitors who have the URL link to your calendar will be able to see your events.
Simply go to Settings<General<SEO Options, and check the appropriate box. Do not forget to click on the Save button to save your new settings.
Please be aware that changing this setting could take a while to apply as it requires reindexing by the search engines, which could be days or even weeks. Therefore, we recommend doing this step before publishing any event in your calendar.
Most CMS platforms, such as WordPress, Wix and Squarespace, have the ability to create password protected pages, where you can embed your Timely calendar and make it private.
Below, you can find all the steps to hide your calendar with a password protected page using the WordPress platform:
Organizations use private websites in many ways. Intranets are often used as online private communications networks with access restricted to internal employees or members. On the other hand, extranets provide a closed, internal communications network for a specially selected group of external partners, such as clients, customers or suppliers.
Regardless of the purpose of your private website, making your Timely calendar private is quite simple. You just need to create your calendar embedding code and add it to the backend of your private website, the same way you would do it if it were a public website. For additional instructions, please check the article How to Embed your Calendar.
In some situations, you may want to limit the online visibility of some but not all of your events. In this case, after creating your event on your Timely dashboard, instead of publishing it, you can Save as draft. Then, the event will only be visible in the Events>Draft section of your Timely dashboard.
To allow users to access these private events and see details, you can create an Editor account for them. For more information about user accounts, please refer to the article How to Add Users to Your Timely Account.
For more user guidance, please go to our Help Center. If you have any questions or need additional assistance, do not hesitate to contact us. Alternatively, you can open a support ticket from your Timely account’s dashboard.
With a Timely account, you can easily set up slider and carousel views to create more engagement with your clients. You can choose any of these two animated views to highlight the most important events from your events calendar.
To access the views, go to the Settings > Embed Code. There you can choose between the available embed code types:
The types that we will explain in this post are Slider and Carousel.
Timely event slider widget is an impactful way to show events on your website. Using the slider view, you can display as a slideshow. The slider will show one event per slide, increasing event awareness. See it in action in our event slider widget demo page.
To access the slider view, go to the Settings > Embed Code > Type > Slider.
Additionally, by expanding the Advanced settings, you can choose the maximum width of the slider, the sliders delay time in seconds and also the date range. Also, you can click on the Featured events checkbox to only show the events that have been marked as featured in your calendar
Timely's events carousel widget is a fun and attention-grabbing way to highlight events on your website. With the carousel view, you can showcase up to 12 events in a row of up to 4 events at a time. See it live in our events carousel widget demo page.
To access the carousel view, go to the Settings > Embed Code > Type > Carousel.
Furthermore, by expanding the Advanced settings, you can choose the maximum number of events to display, the maximum number of events per page, and also the date range. Moreover, you can click on the Featured events checkbox to only show the events that are already featured in your calendar.
For both the slider and the carousel views, you can filter the events that will show up, using categories, tags, organizes, venues and all the other custom filters that you might have created. This will help you to show only the events that you want your customer to see. Just expand the filters and choose the ones you want on the Slider or on the Carousel view.
When you are done selecting and customizing you view, simply go to the Widget code area, and choose the way you want to embed it on your website, as an iFrame or as a Server Side Embed.
Then, click on Copy Snippet and paste this piece of code in the calendar’s webpage of your website. Your page will show a beautiful slider or carousel view to display your most important events.
